John Higgins was born in Sydney and moved to the United States after graduating from St. Ignatius College, Riverview.  John began his professional career at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, California where he appeared in sixteen Shakespeare plays.

In 1970 John moved to London where he worked for the Royal Shakespeare Company, appeared in the West End production of THE BOYS IN THE BAND and toured to South Africa for Ray Cooney in THE MATING GAME.  In South Africa he directed WORDS AND MUSIC BY BOB DYLAN at the Market Theatre, Johannesburg.

His feature film work as an actor includes PATTON with George C. Scott, THE REVOLUTIONARY with Jon Voight and MAJOR DUNDEE with Charleton Heston.  He also appeared in the Australian classic PHAR LAP.  As a Dialogue Director, John worked on the films THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS and STEEL MAGNOLIAS. 

Since returning to Australia in 1999, John has been in high demand as an American Dialect Coach.  He has worked for the New Theatre on THE GREAT GATSBY, for the Ensemble Theatre on I OUGHT TO BE IN PICTURES and THE PRICE and four times for Company B on BURIED CHILD, SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER, THE LARAMIE PROJECT and MY ZINC BED which has no American characters at all.  His movie work in Australia includes ATTACK ON THE QUEEN directed by Jerry London and THE QUIET AMERICAN directed by Phillip Noyce.

John has taught at U.C.L.A., The Actors Centre (London), On Camera Connections, The Ensemble Studios and The Actor's Centre Australia.  John specialises in teaching American dialects.  He also teaches standard and regional British accents.  As an acting teacher John has taught The Method in New York and Shakespears in London.
