JACQUI CARROLL

Well known for her work in dance, Jacqui has performed with such companies as Australian Dance Theatre, Sydney Dance Co., Spink Inc. and EMMA Dance (UK) and Mary Anthony Dance Theatre (NY).

As choreographer Jacqui has created such major works as CARMINA BURANA, SCHEHERAZADE, OTHELLO, FOUR SEASONS, TRANSFIGURED NIGHT, A CHRISTMAS CAROL and THE TEMPEST for the Queensland Ballet; CANZONA for the Australian Ballet; STABAT MATER, NIGHT OF THE FULL MOON, NIGHTSONGS and SUMMER DANCES for the West Australian Ballet among others.

Since encountering the work of internationally renowned Japanese theatre director Tadashi Suzuki in 1991 Jacqui has deepened her skills base even further and has been developing theatre works using all the resources of movement, text and dance that she has accrued during her extensive career in theatre. Seeking an avenue through which to realise larger and more complex works of theatre, the formation of Frank Productions in 1993 with Co-Director John Nobbs has become the means through which this has been achieved. Mr Suzuki's Actor Training taught by SCOT (Suzuki Company of Toga) guest actor John Nobbs produces those physical actors with which these large artistic dramas can be realised.

Jacqui attended Toga, Japan, in 1994, '95 and '97. During these visits she was invited to participate in the Training as well as observing the work of Tadashi Suzuki in training, rehearsals and performance.

As Co-Director of Frank Theatre, Jacqui has directed and choreographed The ROMANCE OF ORPHEUS, THE TALE OF MACBETH; CROWN OF BLOOD, OEDIPUS REX AND ROMEO AND JULIET…A GATHERING OF GHOSTS, SALOME, HEAVY METAL HAMLET, RASHOMON and DOLL SEVENTEEN. In 1991 Jacqui created the controversial BRIEFINGS FOR A DESCENT INTO HELL for La Boite and AGAMEMNON for Queensland University of Technology Drama Dept. At the invitation of Tadashi Suzuki Frank Theatre presented Jacqui's production of SALOME at the Toga International Arts Festival 1998 and HEAVY METAL HAMLET at Shizuoka Spring Arts Festival 2000.
