Sven
Swenson has worked extensively as a playwright, director, performer and singer/songwriter.
He won the 2002 Queensland Premier’s Theater Award which resulted
in ROAD TO THE SHE-DEVIL’S SALON having it's world premiere in the Queensland
Theatre Company's 2003 season. He subsequently won the 2003 Matilda Award. In
2005 Sven wrote BOB CAT MAGIC for the Queensland Music Festival.
Since 1999 three of Sven’s plays have premiered with the Queensland Theatre Company. Vertigo and the Virginia was short-listed for the Courier Mail/George Landen Dann Award in 1995 and after several redrafts and rehearsed readings received its world premiere production in the QTC 1999 season. His short play IN LIEU OF FLOWERS for which he recently received a Matilda Commendation premiered in QTC’s 2001 season and last year THE STIFF was performed as part of QTC’s The Works program of play readings. Sven has been a QTC affiliate writer in 1996, 2000 and 2001, and is a 2002 Associate Artist.
Several of his other plays have been performed in Queensland and in Victoria (La Mama, The Organ Factory, The Cab Co, and Toybox Theatre). Sven has also written for film and television.
Sven has appeared on stage in numerous productions and was Resident Director for several well-known Cabaret Companies. He was also co-founder of The Actor’s Office in Melbourne.
In addition, Sven is a successful singer and songwriter, skills he is bringing to bear on two full-length musicals he is developing.
